Basic human rights are not fully guaranteed by the courts: The Defender’s Office and Supreme Judicial Council will work together

RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan had a working meeting with the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Gagik Harutyunyan. The issues with regard to justice and accessibility of judicial system to the people were discussed.

Basic rights and freedoms of the human being and the citizen are directly applicable rights։ this constitutional provision should be properly exercised in practice, the primary guarantor of which should be the judiciary. Whereas in this regard, there are issues in the judicial system that requires urgent solutions.

The complaints addressed to the Defender show that there is a need to eliminate the mistrust towards the judiciary as a mechanism for the effective protection of one’s rights. Even though the Defender does not intervene in individual cases, its activities reveal that the issues of rights protection results from the insufficient flexibility of judicial procedures.

In his turn, the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council underlined the importance of building trust towards justice and institutional reforms of the judicial system. Gagik Harityunyan presented the initiatives and the projects aimed at effectively guaranteeing the protection of rights in judicial system.

During the meeting, discussions took place about the questions related human rights protection in the administrative justice, levy of fines and interests on non-fulfillment by citizen of their obligation towards the banks, as well as, in general, about the effectiveness of judicial protection of their rights in this field.

As a result of the discussions, it was decided to unite efforts for improving the system and securing the accessibility of justice.
