An Official Visit to the United States of America: Concrete Agreements Between the Human Rights Defender and California’s Universities and Armenian Diaspora Organizations

The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, is in the state of California on an official visit at the invitation of the Armenian Bar Association.

 

During the second half of the visit, from July 1-3, meetings took place with the Los Angeles municipal authorities and the Armenian diaspora organizations, and a number of universities in California.

 

On the occasion of the visit, the Consul General of Armenia, Armen Baibourtian, organized a special reception at the Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Glendale.

 

During the reception, Arman Tatoyan delivered a speech in which he presented the work of the Human Rights Defender, issues related to human rights and democratic development. In particular, the judicial reforms, the fight against corruption, the penitentiary system and etc. were discussed. At the end of the reception, concrete agreements for cooperation were reached with a number of organizations of the Armenian community in the United States. 

 

During the meeting with the head of the Armenian National Committee of America Western Region, ideas were exchanged about cooperation on issues related to international discussions of the Armenian Genocide and information exchange.

 

Cooperation agreements were also made with the General Inspector of Los Angeles concerning the protection of human rights in places of detention.

 

During the discussions with the California universities, agreements were made for organizing experience exchange for the representatives.

 

The Human Rights Defender of Artsakh, Artak Beglaryan, also participated in the organized visit to the United States in regard to the protection of the rights of our compatriots in Artsakh and ensuring Artsakh’s democratic recognition.
