During an unannounced visit the detainee raised heart related issues: examinations were conducted with the support of the Defender

The representatives of the Defender’s Office paid an unannounced visit to Armavir penitentiary institution of the Ministry of Justice of the RA, private interviews were held with 2 persons on hunger strike and a number of other detainees.

 

The detainee who has been on a hunger strike since April 30 informed the representatives of the Human Rights Defender that he had heart related problems, however he had not applied to the medical staff of the penitentiary institution. This issue was discussed with the administration of the penitentiary. The detainee was transferred to a civilian hospital where he undergone the necessary examinations.

 

Another detainee on a hunger strike mentioned that he had health issues related to liver. The medical staff of the penitentiary institution clarified to the representatives of the Defender that an examination is envisaged in near future.

 

The people deprived of their liberty were presented the negative consequences of hunger strike on their health.

 

During the private interviews the detainees raised issues regarding their detention conditions, which are under the constant attention of the Defender within the capacity of the National Preventative Mechanism and necessary activities are taken to resolve these issues as soon as possible.
