The Defender proposed Yerevan Municipality to consider fundamental solutions for waste management, including the option of involving another company

The Human Rights Defender applied to Yerevan Municipality to discuss the issue of involvement of another company in case the Armenian branch of Sanitec company continues the improper performance of its obligations. The basis for the letter was the examination of the complaints that Defender’s Office continues to receive.

In particular, according to numerous complaints addressed to the Human Rights Defender in recent months, waste disposal in different parts of the city is implemented improperly, and in some cases it is not implemented at all. Calls and complaints to Sanitec hotline remain unanswered. Moreover, citizens are improperly notified or are merely notified about the delay for the work or the deadlines for its implementation. Similar information and news have also appeared in media publications and on social media.

The created situation becomes problematic given also the risks of causing harm to population’s health.

The Human Rights Defender will be consistent in finding immediate and effective solutions to the problem.
