Arman Tatoyan presented a special report on the human rights and democracy in Armenia to the Annual Meeting of the Armenian Bar Association in the USA

On June 20, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan participated in the Annual Meeting of the Armenian Bar Association in Los Angeles and presented a special report on the development of human rights and democracy in Armenia. The special session was chaired by the member of the Board of Governors of the Association, Garo Ghazarian.

 

Particularly, the Defender spoke about the activities of the Human Rights Defender during April-May events in 2018. The issues concerning the development of human rights were emphasized. The Defender presented his position on the judicial reforms in Armenia, the fight against corruption, humiliating and hate speech in the social media and a number of other actual issues.

 

Arman Tatoyan also talked about the protection of our compatriots in Artsakh, his activities towards the recognition of democracy in Artsakh, cooperation with his counterpart in Artsakh. The Defender reaffirmed the fundamental principle that the political status of the territory cannot have an impact on the protection of the rights.

 

During the meeting, the Armenian advocates in the USA highly appreciated the Human Rights Defender’s activities and impact on the improvement of the human rights system in the country. The directions of the cooperation between the Human Rights Defender and the Armenian Bar Association have been discussed.

 

The Human Rights Defender of Artsakh Artak Beglaryan also participates in the visit. The visit is organized by the Armenian Bar Association in the USA.
