The delegation headed by three Ombudspersons of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in Armenia on a three-day visit. They came to learn about the working methods and principles of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, which is considered as one of the best by the Council of Europe.

On the first day of the visit the Bosnian colleagues got familiarised with the structure and competencies of the Human Rights Defender’s Office, the work carried out with citizens and visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex.

The members of the delegation laid flowers at the eternal fire and honoured the memory of the innocent victims with a minute of silence. The guests visited the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, got familiarised with files and documentaries evidencing the Armenian Genocide, left notes in the remerberance book.

In the upcomimng, days the delegation headed by three Ombudspersons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, accompanied by representatives of the Defender's Office, will visit places of deprivation of liberty, specifically penitentiary instutions and detention centers for arrested people, with a view to getting acquainted with the implementation of the Defender's functions as a National Preventive Mechanism.

As a reminder, within the framework of the project implemented by the Council of Europe, the experience of the Human Rights Defender’s Office as National Preventive Mechanism has been introduced to other countries for implementation. For that purpose, several months ago the representatives of the National Centre for Human Rights of the Kingdom of Morocco, then the representatives of the National Authority for the Prevention of Torture of the Republic of Tunisia visited Armenia.

The study visit has been supported within the Action implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina Strengthening of the Human Rights Ombudsman Institution – a part of the joint programme between the European Union and the Council of Europe (May 2016 – May 2019).
