Arman Tatoyan has been elected as a member of CoE Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT)

On June 12, 2019, during the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers session (47 member states) Arman Tatoyan was elected as a member of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) in respect of Armenia.

 

The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) was established under the 1987 Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment of the European Council. The CPT pays visits to places of deprivation of liberty of the Council of Europe member states. All the members of the CPT are independent and impartial experts on the issues within the competency of the Committee.

 

The Committee (CPT) complements the judicial activities of the European Court of Human Rights and is considered to be a non-judicial mechanism for the prevention of torture and other forms of ill-treatment.
