Arman Tatoyan had discussions with UN high-ranking officials in Geneva

On November 22 in Geneva RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan had meetings with Secretary of the UN Committee against Torture Patrice Gilbert and chief of the Americas, Europe and Central Asia branch of the UN office of the  High Commissioner of Human Rights Mr. Gianni Magazzeni.

 

During the meetings the joint programs were discussed, related to the capacity building, development and effectivity of the Human Rights Defender as a national preventive mechanism in Armenia. At the same time the parties paid attention to the various forms of tortures and ill-treatment and the Ombudsman’s activity in the mentioned field.

 

Arman Tatoyan also presented new constitutional and legislative solutions, and stressed the necessity of strengthening the Human Rights Defender’s preventive role.

 

The parties both emphasized the importance of intensive cooperation with NGOs and mass media in the activities, related to prevention of ill-treatment in the places of detention, as well as the necessity of presenting the identified issues in special reports.
