The Human Rights Defender’s legal principles on journalists’ right to access to penitentiary institutions and the obligation of competent state authorities in that respect

On the basis of a legal study on journalists’ right to access to places of deprivation of liberty, particularly penitentiary institutions, and on questions concerning permission or rejection by the competent state authorities of journalists’ access, the Human Rights Defender’s Office prepared precise legal standards which, according to the Defender, must be applicable in deciding on the matter of journalists’ access to penitentiary institutions.
