RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan had a working meeting with Chief of the America, Europe, and Central Asia Branch of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Gianni Magazzeni.
During the meeting, the Defender presented to Gianni Magazzeni the regulations under RA Constitutional Law on Human Rights Defender, specifically the solutions aimed at enhancing the Ombudsman’s institutional role in Armenia.
The parties also discussed questions related to the Human Rights Defender’s activities in the protection of individuals deprived of liberty, improvements of normative-legal acts and development of relations with the civil society.
Among other questions, reference was made to the existing issues relating to human rights protection in Armenia, the measures taken and the work done by RA Human Rights Defender for resolving issues in that field, as well as to the guarantees for ensuring the independence in practice.
The parties agreed to continue mutual working discussions and promote the activities towards the introduction of international human rights standards in Armenia.
