The Defender of Armenia had a meeting with the director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights

Today the Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan had a meeting with the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, and her representative in Vienna, Special Advisor Jan Haukuaasi.

 

During the meeting, the parties discussed the Defender’s new functions and the Human Rights Defender’s Office’s objectives as prescribed under the new Constitutional Law on the Human Rights Defender, as well as the cooperation mechanisms with the civil society.

 

The parties referred to the steps in torture prevention in Armenia and to the joint working principles with the Parliament.  

 

They also discussed questions related to the capacity building of the Human Rights Research and Educational Centre at the Human Rights Defender’s Office and its training projects.  

 

Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir highlighted the importance of the Human Rights Defender’s institution in the continuous improvement of the Armenian legal system.
