A detainee with serious health issues has been transferred to the Prisons Hospital with the Defender's assistance

The advocate has asked for the Human Rights Defender’s support to organize his client’s proper medical care.

According to the advocate, his client has serious health issues and the medical treatment of the penitentiary institution did not have any positive effects. As a result, his condition is getting worse day by day. The detainee’s brother has applied to the Defender with the same issue.

The Human Rights Defender’s Office initiated a discussion procedure, necessary measures have been taken, including sending official letters to the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice, as well as a visit was paid to the penitentiary institution. The Defender’s representatives had a private interview with the detainee. The latter has raised issues related to his health condition and conditions of the cell. Particularly, he noted that he was not able to use the toilet of the prison cell himself because of his health condition, as it was an Asian type toilet.

Additional letters have been sent to the Penitentiary Service for organizing the person’s inpatient treatment and ensuring the use of the toilet.

As a result of the discussion procedure, with the Defender’s support the detainee was transferred to the Prison Hospital penitentiary institution for inpatient examinations and treatment.
