Following the joint invitation by RA Human Rights Defender and the President of RA Constitutional Court, the Director General for Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe, Philippe Boillat, visited Armenia.
Today, the Human Rights Defender received Mr. Boillat. During the meeting, they discussed questions related to the execution of ECtHR judgments, prevention of torture and ill-treatment, issued regarding protection of human rights in armed forces, as well as representation of the Human Rights Defender’s Office in the regions.
In his speech, Mr. Boillat emphasized the cooperation between the Human Rights Defender and the Council of Europe and the Defender’s role in projects aimed at implementing European standards in the protection of human rights. He also highlighted the Defender’s active involvement in the execution of ECtHR judgment, which constitutes international best practice and is important for extending it to other countries.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to develop mutual cooperation between the Ombudsman’s institution and the Council of Europe, with a view to extending the areas of cooperation and making it continuous.
