Human Rights Defender Meets with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France

Mr. Arman Tatoyan, RA Human Rights Defender received Mr. Jean-Francois Charpentier, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Republic of Armenia, on June 15.

 

During the meeting the parties discussed a range of issues pertaining to the agenda and priorities of cooperation between the RA Human Rights Defender’s Institution and the French Embassy; more specifically, the necessity of implementing joint programs aimed at applying European criteria for human rights protection. During the meeting the importance of the Ombudsman’s Institution in terms of execution of the European Court of Human Rights judgments and decisions was emphasized. In addition, issues pertaining to the prevention of ill-treatment, protection of children’s rights, capacity building of the regional offices of the Human Rights Defender’s Staff, as well as raising public awareness of human rights protection were also discussed.

 

Emphasizing the importance of the activities of the Human Rights Defender’s Staff, Ambassador Charpentier confirmed his readiness to initiate joint projects in the sphere of human rights protection, as well as to expand fields of cooperation.

 

Underlining the importance of further deepening of friendly Armenian-French ties, Ombudsman Tatoyan expressed gratitude to Ambassador Charpentier, highly appreciating the role of the French Embassy in strengthening of democratic values and human rights protection in Armenia.
