Today, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia met with the newly appointed South Caucasus Regional Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Johannes van der Klaauw.
The parties highlighted the importance of the cooperation between two organizations in the field of protection of refugees, asylum seekers and displaced people’s rights. Particularly, the protection of rights of people deprived of their liberty in the light of the new constitutional Law on Human Rights Defender was emphasized.
During the meeting, some priority issues concerning “Enhancing the capacity of Human Rights Defender’s Office to monitor the situation of refugee and asylum-seekers in Armenia’’ joint project were also discussed. At the end of the meeting the parties expressed their readiness to further expand the cooperation in the fields related to protection of refugees, asylum seekers and displaced people’s rights.
