The citizen applied to the Ombudsman informed that her husband started a hunger strike because of unacceptable detention conditions at the penitentiary institution. The applicant requested to visit the detainee.
Immediately after receiving the complaint the Ombudsman’s representatives visited the detained person and had a private meeting with him. The reasons for the hunger strike were revealed: the decision to choose arrest as a restraint measure and tense relations with cellmates.
The detainee requested the Ombudsman’s assistance in order to be transferred to another prison cell. After the visit the problem was presented to the Penitentiary Service.
During another visit to the penitentiary institution it was revealed that the detainee had been transferred to another prison cell.
