The Defender participated in the opening ceremony of the 16-day world-wide campaign “Elimination of violence against women and girls”

On November 27, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, participated in the opening ceremony of the 16-day world-wide campaign “Elimination of violence against women and girls”. It was organised by the UN, European Union, the Council if Europe, as well as by the Embassies of Germany, France, United Kingdom and the USA.

 

In his opening speech, Arman Tatoyan highlighted the importance of the implementation of effective measures towards the prevention of violence against women.

 

“The situation today is troublesome, and it is necessary to take active measures to change it”, noted the Defender.

 

The Vice President of the National Assembly Arpine Hovhannisyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Armenia Richard Mills, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Armenia Jonathan Lacôte, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Natalia Vutova, Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Armenia Judith Margaret Farnworth, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Armenia Bernhard Matthias Kiesler, as well as UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Bradley Busetto also had opening speeches at the event. They found it necessary to combine efforts in the fight against violence towards women.

 

A theatrical performance “I am a woman” was staged at the end of the event.
