The implementation of Armenian Human Rights Defender’s experience was discussed in Morocco

The work experience of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia in the field of torture prevention was presented in the Kingdom of Morocco.

During the workshop on the mandate and functioning of National Preventive Mechanisms, the work of the Human Rights Defender’s Office with citizens and state bodies was particularly highlighted. The participants discussed the challenges recorded during the work at the places of deprivation of liberty, paying attention to their solution.

“The torture prevention requires close cooperation with civil society organizations and independent experts of the field”. In this field we should be guided with the principles of “do no harm” and “obligation of results”. High quality cooperation with administration of places of deprivation of liberty is also necessary. It is of an extreme importance to achieve the trust of detainees and convicts in order to properly protect their rights”, highlighted Arman Tatoyan during the workshop co-organized by the National Human Rights Council and the Council of Europe.

As a reminder, within the project implemented by the Council of Europe, the work experience of the Human Rights Defender has been introduced to other countries for implementation. For that purpose, last year the representatives of the National Human Rights Council of the Kingdom of Morocco, Deputy-President and Secretary General of the National Authority for the Prevention of Torture of the Republic of Tunisia, as well as the delegation headed by three Ombudspersons of Bosnia and Herzegovina visited Armenia.
