Example of an international leading practice: the Defender’s working methods and principles were presented in Tunisia

From December 14 to 16, in the framework of international high-level conference held in Tunisia, RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan presented the Defender’s new working principles, which are recognised as one of the best by the Council of Europe.

 

Arman Tatoyan particularly addressed the activities carried out in the framework of national preventive mechanism. The planning of visits to penitentiary institutions and places of deprivation of liberty, their implementation methods, the procedure of conducting private conversations with the detained and the convicted and other questions were discussed during the Conference.

 

The practices of Slovenia, Serbia, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Croatia and France were presented within the Conference that was organised by the Council of Europe for Arabic countries.

 

RA Human Rights Defender’s working methods and principles were highly estimated. Agreements on examining and implementing them by other countries participating in the conference were reached.

 

During the visit to the Republic of Tunisia, the President of the country, Beji Caid Essebsi, received Arman Tatoyan and other participants of the international conference. The
President highlighted the importance of joint work with institutions experienced in the field torture prevention.
